How Our Surroundings and Nutrition Connect

Our nutrition is all about what goes into our mouth, right? Wrong!

Good news, though! There's no need for a fancy liver cleanse or to drink cayenne pepper with lemon for every meal of the day. We're made to get rid of the nasties in our environment. It's a major part of our liver's job. Even better, our food plays a huge role in making our bodies run in tip top shape.

We know that our food effects our genes, but did you know your food also effects the rate that your liver gets the nasties out of your body (sometimes by changing our genes)? Confused? Let me give you an example. If you decided to eat a high fat or high carbohydrate diet, your liver would get the nasties out of your body slower than if you consumed a high protein diet. That's because protein helps your liver to function at its best, while fats and carbs bog it down. Cruciferous vegetables (Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and broccoli), alter gene expression to help your liver out even more!

Some nutrients that help you fight your nasty environment:
  • Vitamin E
  • Vitaman A
  • Thiamine
  • Vitamin B6
  • Ascorbic Acid
  • Iron
  • Selenium
  • EGCG
  • Curcumin
  • Glutathione
  • Quercitin
  • Magnesium

I will forever and always go back to magnesium, which is an important part of our detoxification system. Symptoms of magnesium match up well with symptoms of being in toxic overload, such as headaches, fatigue, hypertension, constipation, chocolate cravings, kidney stones, and more!

So, remember, your body is under a lot of pressure. Don't make it harder by shoving more nasties in it!
