Laughter is the best medicine, right? There are actual, real life humor researchers that study the physiologic effects of laughter. What a job!
Surprise, surprise, there are no negative studies associated with laughter! Even better, nearly all of the studies show laughter benefiting health! A bit of laughing has been shown to beat stress, boost immunity, and reduce the effects of diseases such as HIV and cancers. So, will laughter be a medical intervention?
There has been some conflict in using laughter as a part of treatment. Most of this is due to lack of evidence for its definitive use in medicine. But... what is this laughter-medicine going to hurt? In fact, patients who used laughter as a part of their recovery plan felt more together than focusing on negative emotions.
How do you enhance your health with laughter?
My pets are my favorite little goofs. Nothing adds the healing power of laughter to my day like a seven pound cripple kitten beating up a sixty pounds monster (see left).
