Are You Endotoxic? Probably.

Endotoxemia comes about when the outer wall of gram-negative bacteria (like E. coli or Salmonella) break, often due to injury or infection, to let endotoxins into the blood. Sometimes this can be a good thing, and this process can protect from disease by assisting with immunity. However, chronic low-grade endotoxemia may be a gut-related phenomenon that results in metabolic syndrome. From the following symptoms, it seems many of us may be experiencing endotoxemia and not even know it!

Endotoxemia can result in:

  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • Heart disease
  • Fatty liver
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Nutrient deficiency
  • Fatigue
  • Chemical sensitivity
  • Endocrine disruption
  • Obesity

How do we fight endotoxemia? First, avoid a diet high in corn oils and lard, linked to an increase in endotoxins. Be sure to get plenty of fiber and take probiotics to support your gut microbia. Supplement glutathione and SAMe, because both of these nutrients are depleted by excess endotoxins. Curcumin and melatonin can decrease inflammation brought on by endotoxemia.

Protect your gut!
